ConCert certification focuses squarely on interoperability and clinical data exchange, so the specifications tested relate to securely transmitting clinical information using IHE Cross Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS) and Direct, as well as patient and provider identification and matching (PIX, PDQ, HPD). The certification program is targeted to specific products and versions of health IT available in the marketplace, whether they are an EHR module, edge system, HISP or HIE. By leveraging constrained specifications and an automated test tool the certification program provides assurance that ConCert certified EHRs and HIEs will be able to securely and reliably exchange information. There are four certifications available, ConCert by HIMSS EHR, ConCert by HIMSS HIE, ConCert by HIMSS HISP and ConCert by HIMSS Medical Devices. Vendors successfully completing the certification testing will receive one or more of the certification marks shown below.
Four Types of Certification Programs
ConCert by HIMSS EHR™, for electronic health record (EHRs) that enables clinicians to share patient information within and across care delivery communities and provides a simple way for providers to send secure health information directly to trusted recipients, including patients, over the Internet. Supports both Query-based exchange and DIRECT exchange with the addition of the provider directory.
ConCert by HIMSS HIE™ - for health information exchange (HIE) vendors that enables clinicians to share patient information within and across care delivery communities.
ConCert by HIMSS HISP™ - for Health Information Service Provider (HISP) systems that provides a simple way for providers to send secure health information directly to trusted recipients, including patients, over the Internet.
ConCert by HIMSS Medical Device™ - for medical devices and EHR systems to provide a standardized way to exchange programming order information and clinical information at the point of care. Based on IHE profiles including IHE Device Enterprise Communication and Point of Care Infusion Verification (DEC, PIV).
Robust, highly automated testing tool that will verify that health IT products are capable of exchanging health information with other systems. Products that complete testing represent the capability to support a single set of standardized, easy-to-implement connections facilitating secure, interoperable communication among systems. The program aims to certify EHR, HIE and HISP vendor products that can reliably transfer data within and across organizational and state boundaries.
